Digital infrastructure is making the jump

The European Commission introduced their European Technological Sovereignty Package and is heading in a new direction. They state “we are home to over 3 million open source developers across the EU”, and “backing open source software to build better digital tools”. And I think that is beautiful, that there are so many people contributing, hoping it will become many more. The awareness has risen to a point that job offers are slowly adapting, which led me into making the next jump in engineering.

The goal of my work remains to strengthen the use of open source software in the public sector, and now I get to do it at a really awesome place. Namely at SURF, the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of the Netherlands. It is great to contribute to SURF itself and support the projects which innovate within the education and research sector.

It is the sector that has been quite vocal about this need for change in the last few years. The puzzle pieces fit together, making for a great starting point to actively be involved in the shift of the coming years.
